How Compose works

Start with the polisher on this page, then add the browser extension when you want help inside your inbox. Nothing is ever sent for you.

Paste your draft

Drop in up to 600 characters: an email reply, a LinkedIn message or a text. Rough is fine.

Pick a tone

Choose friendly, professional, bold, funny or concise, and where the message is going.

Copy the version you like

You get a polished version and an alternative. Use one as is, or tweak it before you send.

What the polisher changes

It corrects grammar and spelling, smooths the flow and cuts filler words. Concise makes the message shorter than your draft. Professional and LinkedIn messages come back without emoji, and other messages keep emoji only if you used them.

Tab to tidy, in the extension

Type in almost any message box on the web, pause, and press Tab. Compose fixes mistakes and keeps your meaning, and it leaves prices, links, email addresses and phone numbers as they were. Fields that hold data, like email, phone, address and search boxes, are left alone.

Replies that sound like you

Press the Compose tab beside a reply box and it reads the conversation, then writes a draft in your brand voice or a neutral tone. It learns from the replies you send and the edits you make, and you can erase what it learned in Settings. It is switched off on banking, health and government sites.
